I have to admit, I was extremely lucky to start off where I was. I didn't have any training - I had never heard of any other Internet
marketers whom I could depend on or draw information from.
I was literally doing it alone.
Early in 2005 I created a website in another market with the intention of providing a free resource to a specific group of people.
This group of people were no larger than ten or twenty thousand. I wasn't looking to make any money, and I wasn't hoping to gain
any fame.
However, because of the usefulness of my website I attracted the attention of a lot of people, and started to get thousands of visitors
to my website without paying a dime for advertising!
I made one little change and started making $2000 to $3000 per month...
Do you ever have those "eureka moments" when something finally clicks? I had one of those in January 2005.
I realized that with the traffic that I was getting to my website that I should be able to make some money with Google Adsense (an
excellent form of affiliate marketing). I had tried in the past to make money with Adsense and failed (my best month was around $7).

I placed Google Adsense on my website and made $7 that same day!
While $7 is not a lot, the idea was still thrilling to me. That number eventually hit around $10 per day.
There was only one thing blocking me from making more money - knowledge.
Luckily for me I saw an advertisement for an e-book about Google Adsense by Joel Comm. After purchasing this e-book I made some small
changes and BAM! - I started making up to $100 per day! That worked out to $2000 to $3000 per month...
The "eureka moment" occurred when I realized that by applying a small amount of correct knowledge I could see awesome results.
My search for "correct" knowledge had just begun...
Shortly afterwards I started to use this same traffic to build an opt-in list. In October 2005 I had a list of 4,000 (it took me 6 months to
build a list of only 4,000 email addresses).
Meanwhile, something strange was happening - people starting sending me emails asking me questions.
They looked at me as the "guru" in the market that my website worked with.
I knew enough about the subject to write a short e-book. I spent 10 long hours to write my first e-book, and then sold it for $19.
I was surprised to see that it not only sold, but it sold well! Within three months I had brought in $30,000 in sales of my one e-book.
Then another piece of "correct" knowledge made a huge impact...
In October 2005 I purchased Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula, and 30 days later I had my own launch of my first membership site.
We pulled in over $92,000 in sales within only 7 days (with my list of 4,000 people).
I was elated. I couldn't believe what had just happened. In 2005 I had close to $150,000 in sales of my own products, and tens of thousands
of dollars in revenues from affiliate marketing (i.e. selling other people's products).
The worst that could happen arrived at my doorstep...
You see, when you start to make more money there is something that occurs - you have to pay taxes!
While paying taxes is a good problem (you have to make money to pay taxes), in my case it happened at the worst time.
I was "forced" to leave the market that I was involved in. For reasons that I will not describe here, I realized that
I could no longer ethically sell any sort of products in that market.
I was all of a sudden left with no business. I still had my email list, but I wasn't able to do anything with them. My website
revenues went from $10,000 per month to $1,000 per month.
To top it all off, I was hit with a $12,000 tax bill that I suddenly couldn't afford.
That's when I discovered the "formula"
Well, it would be more accurate to say that I realized what I needed to do.
If I was able to build a business by accident that pulled in over $150,000 in revenues in one year, then I should be able
to apply the same strategies and techniques to build an even better business on purpose, right?
And that's exactly what I did. I entered a new market - teaching affiliate marketing. I launched my first website in March 2006 without
the huge fanfare that my earlier website experienced.
I slowly but strategically built new products and offered new services.
I spent more money on advertising to aggressively get back to where I was before.
My "new" business beat my first business by over 200%!
The result? My 2006 revenues were well over $300,000! I had more than doubled what I did in 2005, and I was starting from scratch
